I was looking in the Nayrouz text and I noticed that the word " met`,ryctoc " means goodness and the word " Pi`,rictoc " obviously means Christ. I also noticed that they're spelled differently.

Anybody know anything about this?

It seems like they're related but if someone has an explanation, it would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Thanks

Mike ,

The first word "xrustos" (with the accent on the 'o') means "honest, virtuous", the second word, of course is "Christ". The root of the two words is the same; Christos (Christ), we are told, is usually translated to something like "The Anointed One", but the root word means one who is virtuous, or honest. Also of the same root is "i Christotita" - the noun form meaning "virtue, honesty". It's also, I believe, the same root as the word "chrism" as in Holy Chrism - oil traditionally used to anoint a king.

Hope that helps,

Mike S
