Does anyone know how we say Merry Christmas in Coptic? I wanted to share it with my co-workers. Thanks!

That literally means Happy feast of the Birth. It can be translated as Happy Birthday. Nothing really to do with Christmas.

There are many ways to say Merry Christmas.

1. Nofri sai - Happy Feast
2. Nofri sai `mpihinmici `mPi,rictoc. - Happy feast of Christ's birth.
3. Nofri hou<rictmec Happy (Merry) Christmas (literally, day of Christ birth).
4. An equivalent version to #3 is Nofri ouohoo`mmici `mPi,rictoc .


The most common or popular way would be #1. The closest Coptic translation of Merry Christmas is #3.

There is no clear cut translation, just like Arabic. How do you say Merry Christmas in Arabic? Not an easy answer. The popular answer is "Kolo sana wanta tayeb". This has nothing to do with Christmas. The proper Arabic translation could be "3ed melad saeed" or something like that. But it's not used at all.

Hello all,

In Greek, it's (phonetically):

kah-LAH khrees-TOO-yeh-nah

The 'ee' here is as in "meet" and the 'oo' is as the word "too". The 'y' is actually sort of the 'h' in the name "Hugh", only it's voiced (your vocal cords vibrate like when you pronounce the letter 'b').

And before anyone asks - this is Modern Greek.

Well, I don't think I can do a Greek font here, so I'll have to use Coptic letters - fortunately, they're the same letters, but this "Coptic-Greek" version would be written in all capital letters which obviously you wouldn't do in normal writing.

kala ,rictougena

There are accent marks over the second 'a' in kala and over the 'u' in Khristougena.

I used to take Coptic but i quit zay el shatoora Smile lol but yall are right about nofri ( dah kol el fakra )
