Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me find the text for the Axios that is said for the newly ordained ranks (i.e. Epsaltos, Oghnostos, Subdeacons) in both english and Coptic.

Thanks again for the help.

In Christ,
Mina

Axios: Axios: Axios: (the name of the person) and then their rank. For example, my name is George and therefore, when i got ordained they said:

Axioc@ Axioc@ Axioc@ Gawergioc Pidikeoc

Thanks George. I got what you meant. But do you have the more generic one? I heard Anba Basantee say it once but I cannot remember it. I mean what if you have 10 ppl being ordained? Would you say them all or is there a more generic one time thing?

Thanks so much.

In Christ,
Mina

I'd like to make a little correction. The proper Greek term is not "oghnostos". It is anagnostos. The arabic word is a corrupted form of the Greek. Therefore, it should read
Axiox axioc axioc niebiaik `nanagnoctoc . You could change niebiak for nirefsemsi . That's ok.

While you could say nefrefsemsi , it is awkward. You start by saying, "You (plural) are worthy" and then you specify who the "you" are: "the servants." It is a little awkward to specify the you as "his servants". Agan in the plural form. Changing tense like this does occur in some Coptic texts but this is the exception. It is frowned upon in Greek and English. It's ok in Arabic and there are some Arabicism in certain Coptic texts. But for the most part, keep the tenses the same.

I didn't know that the Arabic and Greek "Oghnostos" was incorrect. Yeah, that is true for changing niebiaik instead of nirefsemsi .
