Hi,

Since this topic was addressed previously inside another thread, I thought I would post a detailed announcement about what we added and how to use it so everyone can see it.

I. What We've Added

You can now type Coptic in our forums.

II. What You Need

Download the Coptic fonts for Windows now from the great folks at copticchurch.net.

All you need to post Coptic text is a knowledge of the standard CS ______ Coptic fonts (e.g., CS Avva Shenouda, CS Pishoi, CS New Athanasius, etc.) and where the letters are on your keyboard. We are working on some Javascript app that can type the letters right into your post, but for now, you can either use your existing knowledge of the keyboard layout to post Coptic OR you can type up your Coptic in Microsoft Word or some other text editor and then paste it here.

All you need to view Coptic text is the actual Coptic fonts installed on your system. We've provided a courtesy link here in our Download section. Just download them, install them, and come back to the forums; you should be all set.

III. How to Write Coptic

Whenever you write a new post or reply to an old one, you will see a toolbar on the top of your screen with bold, italic, underline, quote, etc. One of these buttons is now called COPTIC.

Before you write or paste your Coptic text, press the COPTIC button once. Type or paste your Coptic, and when you are finished, press the same COPTIC button once again. This tells the forums that you have stopped typing Coptic and wish to go back to English now.

If you have any questions or problems, please post a question here.

IV. Additional Notes on Use

Before, you could only type Coptic in a text box that was not connected to the English text. However, I have changed this so you can now type Coptic in the middle of English text. For example, I want to note that I love the hymn Pek`;ronoc ; I can do this without breaking my sentence or paragraph, and as you can see (provided you have the font installed), it looks perfectly with the English text.

However, there will be times when you want to quote an entire hymn. You can still do this by combining the QUOTE and COPTIC buttons. Press QUOTE once, then COPTIC once to start typing Coptic. When you're finished, press COPTIC to tell the system you're done with Coptic and then QUOTE again to tell the system you're done with the quote. The final result will look like this:

Quote:
"almoc ==m=d @ =; nem =i=a
Pe`k`;eronoc V] sa`eneh `ntepi`eneh ouoh pi`sbwt `m`pcwouten pe `p`sbwt `nte tekmetouro @ Ou`cmurna nem ou`ctakty nem oukaci`a `ebolqen nek`hbwc @ =a=l.

"almoc =p=z@=d   "almoc =k=b @ =g
Au,at qen oulakkoc efcapecyt @ qen hanma `n,aki nem `tqyibi `m`vmou @ `Eswp aisanmosi qen `;my]=o=c n`tqyibi `m`vmou @ `nnaerho] qa`thy `nhan pethwou je `n;ok `k,y nemyi.

As you can see (provided you have Coptic fonts installed), the hymn is presented in its own block and is totally clean and independent of the English.

Finally, if you want to be created, you can create nice Coptic signatures for people to read and decode!

I hope you enjoy this new feature, and if there are any questions, feel free to reply to this post and I will come help you.

God bless you,
Paul
