Hi

I just started to translate the coptic synaxarium from english to danish. When I can translate more than one day each day, I do an Iinternet version..

I want to know if I have the latest english translation, mine seems to be from 1995:
http://www.koptisk.dk/books/fa-cd/COPTSYNX.pdf

Also I would like to know where I could get a coptic version, because a few things seems to be unprecise in the english translation I have.

Kind Regars

Markos, that file is the latest (and I think only English) Synaxarium used in Churches. So you have the right one. There was an updated version started by the late Iris Habib El-Masri, professor of Coptic history at HICS. Some updates can be found in Otto Meinardus' book, "2000 years of Coptic Christianity". We are need of an update. Unforetunately, today we have saint relics where there is no commemoration in the Coptic synaxarium.

The synaxarium was written in the 13 or 14th Century from Arabic. It was not translated from Coptic. It is originall Arabic. The Antiphonarium (Difnar) was written after the Synaxarium was formulated.

Hopefully, one day we will have an updated Synaxarium (with Coptic).

I hoped this helped.

George

PS. You can go to www.copticchurch.net and see the Synaxarium online.

Thank you George.

Fortunately I already have Meinardus book, so I will use that too, when I translate. And I guess I can get an arabic Synaxarium in my local church Smile

I just startet to learn arabic last month, so far I only know the alphabet and a very few words.

What is this Antiphonarium (Difnar) ?
