It's been 5 years since the release of the First Edition of Albair's Deacon Service Book, which has become a useful resource for deacons and Coptic churches around the world. Now, the Second Edition of the Deacon's Service Book is out, with more updates that take into consideration the Holy Synod's decisions upto 2007 A.D., newer rites and hymns, and corrections to spelling and grammar based on plenty of research.

Get your hands on the Second Edition of the Deacon's Service Book now!

Why is this book not in english? That somewhat alienates those who cannot read arabic doesn't it?

i think there should be either an english version or english to be incorporated into the same book

hopefully someone from the HCOC can read this and maybe bring up that topic to Albair

Agape,

One thing at a time, guys! It takes a lot of time to work on a good translation, and anyway, we first had to get the Arabic version out, since what's in there needs to be available to the churches, in which the majority of people speak Arabic.

The first edition of this book had mistakes, missing rites and few hymns. This is why I didn't want to work on an English version of it until the 2nd version is out. God willing, there will be an English version, but not soon. I'm working on 2 other books right now, one of them will be out, God willing, in August.
But we will need your help when we start the English version of the book, and maybe the other books as well.

God bless you for your service. While I would like an English version, I am very glad you have an English table of contents for people like me to work with.

Thank you for your hard work.

Sorry Albair, but is there really a need to work on an English version when HG Bishop Youssef is already working on one? Actually, they say it's in its final stages...
Just to avoid duplication of efforts Smile

actually the book that HG Bishop Youssef is working on is not really finished. The part that we are helping him with is barley half way finished, so by the time thats done and the editing finishes.... it still needs some time.

A good idea might be to combined the 2 books maybe Albair and HG might be willing to share ideas and come up with one translation so that all the churches can use the same words and it doesn't vary from one church to another.

Hello Mina24,

Can you clarify which "book" you are referring to that you are helping HG with, and it is not really finished?

Mark Soliman and I (Gerges Gad) are the ones working on the Deacons Service book (for the past 10 years or so).

The book has been reviewed and re-reviewed several times, and is now going thru the final review by Bishop Youssef himself.

It has taken much longer than anticipated, but the reason is to deliver something that is as accurate and useful as possible.

The Book incorporates all the Hymns (including some "lost" ones that are only documented in rare books), all rites for the entire year, all special occasions; it includes the main doxologies for major occasions, it icludes rites for praises, and much more.

With all that being said, we still should not expect a "perfect" book, but rather a very good attempt of a first edition. There will be mistakes that we will discover as we all use the book and those of course will be modified in future editions.

If Albeir would like to join our effort and/or use the english translation we have been working on, he may contact HG Bishop Youssef and discuss this.

God Bless.

So should we not expect this book to be released by this summer or even this year?

It is now going thru the final review by Bishop Youssef himself, and the expectation is to be sent to the publisher soon.

A good step towards uniformity in prayer in the "immigration languages"...

God bless your work!
