Christ is Risen,

Our Lord mentioned as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights likewise the Son of Man in the belly of the earth. (I'm forgetting the exact verse at the moment). What are our church fathers interpretation of this? He died Friday, rose Sunday. Where are the three days and three nights? Is a day and a night symbolizing a specific unit of time different than ours? How does the church view this? Thanks guys.

Truly he is risen

Meghalo,

I am not sure I can shed any light on this. Take a look here:
http://www.bringyou.to/apologetics/num56.htm#THREEDAYS

It may be of help.

Sometimes the Bible states that Jesus rose on the third day. In other places, the Bible states that Jesus Rose after three days. Either way, he was crucified, died, and is now risen.

Glory be to God in all things

He was in the tomb before Friday ended (1 day), He was in the tomb on Saturday (1 day), and He rose from the tomb after Sunday had started (1 day). In that sense, it's three days. The concept of a day 2,000 years ago is not the same concept we have today.
