the FIRST...
"Coptic Language Convention"

with Abouna Shenouda Maher & Brother Antonios the Shenoudian

as Brother Antonios mentionned, it is no coincidence that the decision to plan this conference was made on this past Monday which was the Feast of Saint Shenouda the Archimandrite, a very important advocate for the Coptic language.

From August 4th-August 10th, Abouna Shenouda and Brother Antonios are hosting the first Coptic Language Convention at the monastery in Rochester, NY. This Convention is for anyone, from anywhere. It's a chance to learn your native language, to speak your native language and most importantly to protect, preserve (in the words of HCOC) and to communicate in COPTIC!!!

Many of you have surely heard the famous Coptic song written by Abouna Shenouda, Rashi Ensaw Niwan..well, He is delighted to invite you all to this convention. In one week, we want to be able to teach everyone to pray & to speak fluently in the language of your Coptic Church, just like Abouna Shenouda and many others can!!

To read coptic..congratulations, so teach other how to read it..congratulations again, to know all the hymns by heart...give yourself a pat on the back..but to actually SPEAK it..that's a treasure that we all need to preserve and protect!! This is our IDENTITY..who we are..Coptic Orthodox Christians, and as I spoke with abouna Shenouda and Brother Antonious, this is something we need to preserve and keep dear to our hearts. A beautiful language, that only a few can speak fluently...let's change that!!

So, in brief, the point of this convention is to learn the language that we should all be able to speak as Coptic Orthodox Christians. And please, don't read this and think..no i can't do it..DO IT!! THIS IS FOR YOU!! this is your identity and your language!!

We all want to be able to comprehend what abouna says during a mass don't we? We all want to understand what we say in tasbeha don't we? What's the point of praying a mass if we don't understand the language?! To learn the Coptic Language and to speak it fluently would be a blessing, no doubt!!

Ok so,

The convention will be from August 4th-August 10th..with registration beginning sunday August 3rd.
I know the COOL convention is held that weekend, but at least come from the monday to thursday!!

It will be held at St. Shenouda Monastery, Rochester, NY

There are no fees for housing, food, or registration, but contributions are welcome. Also, please fill out the Individual Retreat Form on ther monastery website:

and send it to Brother Antonios as soon as possible, no later than Thursday, July 31. Men and women of all ages who are eager to learn and speak Coptic fluently are welcome.

well first off, its Brother Antonios, not Father Antonios, he's not a priest, he's a "monk-to-be" God Willing. There isn't really an online discussion, I was hoping it would be through this forum and through the facebook event i created..but feel free to discuss it here..

What a shame, I cannot attend... but can anyone post the notes or something online?

hey, yes its near canada, an hour from buffalo,NY. I am planning on recording the sessions with abouna shenouda. But try to come anyways:)
