I came accross an article about that maybe 20 years from now, people will be able to choose what their children will look like and what genes they will have. This process is called genetic tinking. This is when they create embryos via IVF and then go in and change the genes to make it so that the child will not have certain genetic illnesses and certain desirable traits. What do ya'll think about this? Personally, I think that it is wrong because this interfers with God's will. Agreed or disagreed? |

Hello,
Yes, I would generally agree with you.
Of course, the most important aspect of any human being is the soul. It is the soul that God created for immortality and it is the soul that we must care for throughout our lives in this fleeting world.
Nonetheless, in His Wisdom, God has proscribed certain activities for humans relating to their external appearance and actions. In Leviticus 19:28, God commanded the Israelites not to tattoo themselves. Saint Paul instructed us in 1 Timothy 2:9 to dress modestly. In Romans 14:23, he taught us that everything we do that is not of faith is sin.
Applying these life-giving teachings to this issue, it seems clear to me that designer babies is against God's plan because (1) it manifests too great a concern with outwardly appearances; (2) it is not done out of faith to glorify God, but rather, to modify God's plan for a person's appearance in a hope to please worldly persons instead.
Asking prayers,
Paul |
