In Father Tadros Malaty's commentary on Revelations. He quotes St. Cyril of Jerusalem in regards to the 24 presbyters (pg 68).

Does anyone know the source of the quote, i.e which work of St. Cyril's is it from?

Thank you.

Peter - can you please post a line or two of the text, and I can try to find it for you. (Unfortunately, I left my Commentary back in Boston.)

Thanks!

Hey Carol,
Nice to hear from you hope all is well with you and Paul.

As for the quote here it is in its entirety

St. Cyril of Jerusalem wrote:
The Fathers commanded that all Christians should keep
their memorial, for what they have seen of their dignity and high glory. Those are the incorporeal, for they are close to God who controls everything, and they are always in front of Him, interceding for all the creation, crying together with the four Living Creatures saying, “Holy, holy, holy.”
Great is their glory in the Lord’s sight, more than the
patriarchs, the prophets, the apostles, the martyrs and the saints. For all these are born from human seed, but those spiritual priests are heavenly, they do not have bodies defiled by sin like the humanbeings...
How honorable is this rank they deserved! For while the
angels and all the rest of the heavenly orders are standing in front of the just Judge; those are sitting on luminous thrones, wearingroyal garments. On their heads there are crowns of honor, and intheir hands golden censers filled with the prayers of the saints. They embrace golden bowls, kneeling in front of the true Lamb, and asking Him for the forgiveness of the sins of mankind!
They do not cease praising and rejoicing in front of the
Lord of Hosts together with the four Living Creatures...

Though looking at the way things are footnoted it seems like Fr. Tadros Malaty quoted from Fr. Ibahim Said's Commentary on Revelation who in turn was quoting St. Cyril.

Though any help is greatly appreciated.

Peter - I cannot find the source, sorry. It's frustrating, as I've come across other people alluding to the same reference without providing any source. Hopefully someone else can help us with this treasure hunt. Smile
