The Rite and Hymns of the Annual Sunday Midnight Praise is the fruit of several years of research and over 3 years of studio recording time. Based on the oral and recorded tradition of Cantor Mikhail Ghabrial Girgis El-Batanouny, this release presents the most accurate versions of all the hymns of the annual Sunday Midnight Praise.

  • It is a 7 disc audio CD setthe most complete recording of the annual Sunday Midnight Praise in the Coptic language. All the hymns of the annual Sunday Midnight Praise are included in their entirety (including "damg" hymns). Where there are more than one version of a hymn, all versions are included, with applicable commentary. In total, there are 52 audio tracks recorded by the choir.
  • The project was produced with contributions from prominent scholars and teachers of Coptic hymnology, who contributed their considerable knowledge and vocal talents to the project:
    • Hegumen Ibrahim Aziz, a former member of the choir of the Institute of Coptic Studies, currently serving at St. George Church in Bellflower, CA.
    • Hegumen Mattias Nasr, hymns instructor at the Institute of Coptic Studies.
    • Cantor Gad Lewis, Cantor of St. Demiana Church in Giza, and hymns instructor at the Didymus Institute and the Institute of Coptic Studies.
    • Cantor Osama Fawzy, Cantor of St. Mark (the Old Patriarchate) in Cairo.
    • Deacon Gamil Tadrus, a former hymns instructor at the Clerical College along with many others from Egypt, Canada, and the USA.
  • The recordings contain rare hymns, including:
    • The melismatic Evolhiten Maria, recorded for the first time by an entire choir.
    • For the first time, a recording of the grand melismatic Aven Piarshierevs.
    • The grand melismatic Teoi Enhikanos, the longest hymn in the Coptic Orthodox Church.
  • The 7th CD is a reference source, containing recordings by Cantor Mikhail El- Batanouny and other great cantors of the Church, with an audio explanation of the history of modern Coptic hymnology.
  • The CDs were recorded and mastered digitally in a professional studio.
